LaunchPad Golf is the ultimate driving range experience in Calgary. Creating these merch designs for them was an amazing opportunity and a fun challenge! Not only did I learn some golf slang, but I was also able to develop more skills in Illustrator and push my limits with the software. Following the company's brand guide, I used the Velocista typeface in uppercase and manually kerned the spacing to ensure it maintained its strength and impact.
"Worm Burner" is a slang term used for a low, hard-hitting shot where a golf ball skitters over the ground, barely lifting off into the air. I chose a playful vintage style to appeal to their target market and speaks to the fun, approachable, and welcoming environment that LaunchPad offers.
LaunchPad is a huge fan of the Star Wars Franchise and wanted their own version of the LucasFilms logo. Following the strength and character of the original hand drawn lettering, I recreated the logo with LaunchPad's name and added my own flourishing underneath to keep it original. To push the reference further, we incorporated light sabers with driver heads at the top of the design.
"Goat Track" refers to a golf course that is poorly maintained or neglected. Because of LaunchPad's prestige, I thought it would be fun to speak to the fact that it isn't your run-of-the-mill, average driving range. I designed this goat with attitude that could be easily read in rubber hose animation style, taking inspiration from old cartoons like Betty Boop and Popeye. It's fun, playful, and appeals to all ages in their target market.
